Clopay opener logic board repair in Fresno typically runs $120 – $320 installed, and in most cases we can have your opener working again the same day we diagnose it. The logic board is the brain inside the powerhead – the square box mounted on your garage ceiling – that interprets signals from your wall button and remote, then tells the motor what to do. When it fails, the usual story we hear is that the door worked fine yesterday and today the opener just sits there, humming or completely silent, with no obvious reason why.

Most Fresno homeowners discover this part has failed in one of two ways: either the opener stopped responding to every remote and button at once, or it started doing strange things – opening halfway, reversing for no reason, or cycling the light on and off at odd hours. Aaron Teague has seen plenty of these boards in Clopay units across Fresno, and the diagnosis rarely takes more than ten minutes once we’re at the powerhead with a meter.
Which Clopay Models This Applies To
Clopay pairs its doors with openers built by major motor manufacturers, so the logic board you need depends on what’s actually mounted to your ceiling. We regularly service Clopay-branded openers built on Chamberlain and LiftMaster platforms, as well as the newer Clopay series with belt-drive and chain-drive powerheads. The compatibility gotcha most people hit is that the board part number is stamped on a small white label on the board itself, not on the outside of the motor housing – you’ll often need to remove the light cover to read it. That’s a two-screw job on most Clopay units, but if you’d rather not open the housing, we’ll read it when we arrive.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question, here’s the honest version. Clopay’s OEM boards are reliable but sometimes backordered, and on older models the factory replacement can cost noticeably more than a quality aftermarket equivalent built to the same spec. We stock aftermarket boards from the same suppliers that major repair houses across California use, and we carry OEM Clopay boards for the most common series. If your opener is still under a factory warranty, we’ll tell you before doing anything – running an aftermarket board into a warranty-covered opener can void that coverage, and we’re not going to let that happen to you without a conversation first.

Signs Your Clopay Opener Logic Board Is Failing
- No response from any remote or the wall button. When every input goes dead at once, the board isn’t talking to anything – this is the most common logic board failure we see in Fresno, and it’s usually not the remote batteries.
- The opener runs but the door doesn’t move. If the motor spins and the trolley carriage – the sliding bracket attached to the rail – stays put, the board may be sending power but no timing signal, which is a board problem, not a motor problem.
- The opener opens halfway and reverses. When the logic board misreads the limit switch – the sensor that tells the opener where the door is in its travel – it’ll stop and reverse like there’s an obstruction when there isn’t one.
- The opener light flickers or stays on constantly. A board that’s no longer managing the light relay correctly will keep the bulbs glowing after the door closes, or blink them in patterns that aren’t in the manual.
- The opener works intermittently, worse on hot days. This one’s common in Fresno summers. Heat-soaked circuit boards with cracked solder joints will work in the morning and quit by 3 p.m. when the garage is 110 degrees – a classic board-level failure that no amount of reprogramming will fix.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fresno, we install Clopay-compatible logic boards for $120 – $320, parts and labor combined. The spread depends on two things: the age and series of your opener, and whether the board is still available as an OEM part or we’re going with a quality aftermarket equivalent. Older Clopay powerheads sometimes need a retrofit board kit, which pushes the parts cost up – that’s where the higher end of the range comes from.
Every quote includes the board, installation, wiring-check of the wall button and safety sensors, and reprogramming of your remotes and keypad. We write the total price down and hand it to you before any work starts, and once we agree on that number, it doesn’t change. The repair is also covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise our company puts behind every job: if that board fails within 365 days of install, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s in writing, on the invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
The logic board is one of the safer parts to inspect, but one of the riskier ones to replace on your own if you’re not familiar with low-voltage wiring. Removing the light cover and reading the label is a two-screw job, and checking your wall button and remotes is worth doing before you call. But the board itself sits in a housing where line voltage and low-voltage wiring run close together, and a wrong wire landed on the wrong terminal can fry a new board instantly – or trip a breaker into the bargain. We’ve replaced several boards in Fresno homes where a homeowner attempted the swap and ended up needing a whole new powerhead because the wiring harness got crossed.
If you want to plug the part number into a search and compare, go ahead. But if anything about the wiring makes you hesitate, call our crew before you turn the breaker back on. We’ll bring the right board for your Clopay model and have it running the same visit. (559) 475-9590.
FAQs
Most logic boards in Fresno last 8 – 12 years, depending on heat exposure and how often the door cycles. A garage that faces west with no insulation will burn through a board faster than a shaded north-facing one – heat is the board’s main enemy, and Fresno has plenty of it. A well-maintained unit running 4 – 6 cycles a day will usually get a decade out of the board. Call (559) 475-9590 for an exact diagnosis on yours.
In rare cases yes – a failed capacitor or cracked solder joint can be resoldered by a skilled tech and the board will keep working for years. But honest answer: more than half the boards we open in Fresno have failures across multiple components, and replacing the board is cheaper than the labor to chase a single internal fault. We evaluate each board on its condition; if we think a component-level repair gives you more life at a lower cost, we’ll say so. Either way the price is quoted before work begins, and estimates are free at (559) 475-9590.
A standard Clopay logic board replacement takes about 45 – 60 minutes from start to finish, including reprogramming remotes and keypad and testing the safety sensor alignment. Add a few minutes if the old board has a wiring harness that needs re-pinning. We’ll give you the full time estimate when you call, and the tech who shows up is the one we tell you about beforehand.
Most of the common Clopay and cross-compatible boards are on our trucks, and we also carry stock for LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie units. For less common Clopay series, we’ll source the exact board from our Fresno suppliers, usually same day or next morning. Call (559) 475-9590 and we’ll tell you which situation yours falls into – a live person answers, day or night, weekends and holidays.
