If the rubber strip along the bottom of your Craftsman garage door is cracked, flattened, or peeling away, we stock replacement weather seal that fits Craftsman doors and can typically install it the same day. In Fresno, expect to pay between $90 and $180 for weather seal replacement, including the part and labor. Most Fresno homeowners notice the problem the same way: a strip of daylight under the door, leaves and dust blowing in from the alley, or a damp concrete floor after the first real rain of the season.

You don’t need to know your Craftsman model number before you call, but it helps. The bottom seal on Craftsman doors is a T-style or bulb-style vinyl strip that slides into a metal retainer channel, and it fails slowly over time from heat, vehicle traffic, and chemical exposure. By the time you see daylight, the seal has usually been compromised for months.
Which Craftsman Models This Applies To
Craftsman garage doors were sold through Sears for decades, and the majority of them share the same bottom seal profile: a 4-inch T-style vinyl strip that slides into an aluminum retainer. This applies to most Craftsman residential door series, including the common 18-foot and 16-foot doors you see throughout older Fresno neighborhoods like Tower District, Fig Garden, and Sunnyside. The seal is not usually specific to the door model; it is specific to that retainer channel width and the slot design.
If you can still read the model tag on the inside edge of a door panel, great. If not, we can identify the seal by measuring the old rubber or pulling a small section free. One Craftsman-specific gotcha: some doors installed before 2005 use a slightly narrower T-channel than the current universal replacement sold at big-box stores. We carry both the standard and the narrow profile on the truck so we don’t have to order and reschedule.
Doyle Garage Doors Fresno is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Craftsman or Sears. We do stock Craftsman-compatible seals and service every major brand, which matters when a universal part does not quite seat right on an older door.

Signs Your Craftsman Weather Seal Replacement Is Failing
- Daylight under the door. The rubber has compressed or torn and is no longer contacting the floor. This is the most obvious sign, but it usually appears only after the seal has been failing for a long stretch.
- Dust, leaves, and bugs inside the garage. Fresno winds push debris hard against garage doors, and a crumbling bottom seal leaves a gap that lets it all through. If the garage floor looks like the corner of a car wash, check the seal.
- Water on the floor after rain or sprinkler overspray. Even a quarter-inch gap lets a surprising amount of water in. Damp floors in a Fresno garage often trace back to a seal that looks fine from above but has hardened underneath.
- The rubber feels stiff or crumbles when you touch it. Fresno summer heat bakes vinyl seals. After a few seasons of triple-digit days, the material loses its flexibility and starts to crack instead of conforming to the slab.
- The door is louder than it used to be. The seal is the first point of contact when the door closes. A hardened seal transmits more vibration into the door, which you hear as a thump or rattle.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
| Service | Fresno Price Range |
|---|---|
| Weather seal replacement (standard T-style, 16 ft) | $90 – $150 installed |
| Weather seal replacement (wider door or narrow-channel retrofit) | $120 – $180 installed |
| Bottom seal plus retainer channel replacement (corroded or bent channel) | $150 – $220 installed |
The price we quote is the price you pay. It’s written down and handed to you before any work starts, and it covers the seal, the labor to pull the old one and slide the new one in, and cleanup of the old material. The variance comes from door width, the style of retainer on your door, and whether the aluminum channel itself has taken damage. We don’t charge extra for hauling off the old seal.
Every weather seal repair we complete in Fresno carries the same guarantee as everything else we do: 365 days from the date of repair. If it fails, we come back and make it right at no charge. That includes the part and our time, no service fee conversation required.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check your seal by running your hand along the bottom rubber while the door is open and looking for cracks, flat spots, or sections pulling free from the retainer. You don’t need tools for a visual inspection. Where DIY goes sideways is the actual swap: the old seal often tears and leaves chunks inside the retainer channel, the new seal needs to be pulled through with cable lube and tension, and a seal that is cut a half inch short splits within a season. We’ve followed more than a few big-box seal kits into Fresno garages and finished the job the kit started.
Weather seal replacement is not a dangerous repair. There is no spring work involved, and nobody is under any tensioned component. But if you’d rather have it done right and done once, call (559) 475-9590 and we’ll get you scheduled.
FAQs
Most Craftsman weather seals in Fresno last 3 to 5 years before the vinyl loses enough flexibility to warrant replacement. Doors that face west or southwest and absorb afternoon sun most of the year tend to fail at the faster end of that range. If your door faces into direct afternoon heat, expect to replace the seal every few seasons. Call (559) 475-9590 and we can check it during a visit.
A torn or cracked weather seal cannot be reliably patched. The material works by flexing evenly across the width of the door, and a patch creates a stiff spot that separates again within weeks. Replacement is the repair. We give you a written price before the old seal comes out.
Most Craftsman weather seal replacements are done in 30 to 45 minutes. That includes pulling the old seal, cleaning the retainer channel, sliding in the new seal, trimming the ends, and a quick test close to verify it seats against the concrete. If the retainer channel needs work, budget closer to an hour. Call (559) 475-9590 for scheduling.
Yes. Our Fresno trucks carry standard and narrow-profile T-style seals that fit the vast majority of Craftsman doors. If your door has an uncommon retainer or an older channel, we can still match it, but it may take a supply-house run or a short order. We’ll tell you before scheduling anything.
